BLACKTOP

“Blacktop” is a collection of panoramic photographs which documents the action and colour of water and oil on the surface of a freshly paved roadway. This is a subject in which I have been interested for years. It is best done when the road outside a residence is freshly paved, before it gets tyremarks and before the oil washes off. The oil in the mixture of the asphalt provides an iridescence which makes the surface swim with the motion of the water pouring off of it or separating into a collections of little pools. This motion and the manner in which the water spreads itself across the surface is the gesture which I wish to demonstrate in each piece.
